Scent Notes
Warm and sweet, like honey dripping from worn wooden spoons.
Inside the Hive
Comb, what beeswax is made from, the colony's living architecture. Worker bees produce beeswax from glands on their abdomens via tiny translucent scales, then chew and shape those scales into hexagonal cells. The shape of the hexagon is nature's most efficient architecture, storing the maximum amount of material while using the least amount of wax. It is believed that bees represents their connection to the deeper parts of nature, where is sacred geometry is found in quartz crystals, snowflakes, and more.
But beeswax alone doesn't create the hive's structure. Every crack, crevice, and surface is sealed with propolis, a sticky resin bees gather from tree buds and mix with enzymes from their own bodies. Propolis is part of a hive's social immune system, and has been used by humans for thousands of years for its antimicrobial and healing properties. It's the glue, the medicine, and the barrier all at once.
When we think about the true energy of a beehive, it extends far beyond the hive box itself. The colony of bees, the medicines it produces, the land it roams, the sun it follows, and the air it moves through are all a part of the bee ecosystem. Together, these are what encompass the spirit of the hive.
Scent Profile
The HIVE opens with a honeyed heart. Beeswax brings a waxy presence to the fragrance, and propolis adds earthier layer, with hints of tree resin that give the fragrance its complexity. Added is a small piece of propolis to the bottle as well, acknowledging it's presence in raw form. A resinous base of benzoin and labdanum offers a soft, balsamic warmth to the drydown, giving the HIVE its sweet, lingering finish. This is the most beeswax-forward fragrance in the collection.
About Beeswax-Infused Fragrance
Every bottle begins with an infusion of organic sugarcane alcohol with beeswax, a slow process that gives each bottle its distinctive golden color.
Beeswax absolute is also present in every formula. This is a prized material in natural perfumery, extracted from honeycomb wax to draw out the deepest, most concentrated essence of the wax itself. The result is a rich, viscous, dark material with a complex scent that reads as honey, tobacco, and balsam.
Because I work with natural materials and make each batch by hand, slight variations in color, aroma, and clarity may occur. This is the beauty of working with nature, and a part of what makes each bottle special.
